Beginning in 1977, the book follows Johnny Rez and a cast of quirky companions through fourteen rollicking adventures in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Along the way, Johnny tangles with hungry bears, raging white water, sultry Southern women, a host of cops and rangers, and even a creature called a "snot otter".
The story culminates with a series of attempts to climb the most elusive Smoky Mountain of all, Mount Guyot (pronounced "GEE-oh"), where few people ever set foot. After three decades of booze, dope, and broken dreams, can a newly-sober John Reznick finally find Mount Guyot and claw his way to the top?
The years are working against him, but faith and love are on his side...

Maybe the best book I ever read
Funny, spell binding, great read for everyone! Could not put this down and I don't read much..Laughed out loud in the airport and got some strange looks.
I just finished the book. It was awesome. I felt like I lived in your shoes Buddha while I was reading it. I’ll need another copy to have you sign it if I ever see you again.
Fantastic, entertaining story of hiking adventures. I could not put the book down, wanting to know what was going to happen next. I hope to see much more from this great author.
When I heard the stories in the book, I couldnt help but feel that any one of these people could be my friends, family, or drinking buddies. Dan and Craig must have been wonderful drinking companions! I read most of this book in the passenger seat of of a 22 hour car trip. Passing through Tennessee and Kentucky I had the sudden urge to marvel at the mountains. I've had to explain to my wife why I was laughing out loud. (grandpa's cheesebarn, subtle jokes about strong forearms, etc)
I hope some day my kids will be able to read a story like this and wonder if it couldnt just be dear old dad and his cronies.
Fantastic book with loads of humor! I know what will be on my gift list this year for my brothers-in-law and buddies!!
Hopefully, Buddha Palguta will be writing his second book soon.
This book is full of adventure and soul-filled, full-bodied life every minute with those guys on the AT. The author is a wonderful storyteller, I laughed a lot. It was like being with this bunch with every hiking trip they did. I hope to read more from this author.
